JERI SEDLAR - Biography

For over 15 years Jeri Sedlar has been exploring the attitudes, motivations, values and work/leisure interests of people 50 Plus. She is an author, social researcher, motivational speaker, Senior Advisor to The Conference Board on the Mature Workforce and served as a Delegate to the White House Conference on Aging. She is the co-author of the two highly acclaimed books, DON’T RETIRE, REWIRE! 5 Steps To Fulfilling Work That Fuels Your Passions, Suits Your Personality and Fills Your Pocket, and ON TARGET- Enhance Your Life and Ensure Your Success.

In 1997 Jeri undertook pioneering research on the pleasure, pain and personal payoffs associated with the traditional model of retirement. Her findings led to the creation of the concepts of Rewiring® and Rewirement®, or as she defines it, the “new way to do retirement” which focuses on finding new purpose, passions and work possibilities that promote healthy and productive outcomes. Her breakthrough identification of 85 motivators, or drivers for “why people work beyond a paycheck” turned the idea of work on its head and has become a framework for life planning. Her cutting edge work has earned her the title, America’s Rewiring® expert.

An advocate of life planning in conjunction with financial planning, she has addressed thousands in her presentations to organizations in the private, public and non-profit sectors and to the customers, clients, constituents, alumni and members of those organizations who all need to be rewired in some way. Audiences learn how to leverage their longevity bonus and use their vitality and skills to create mentally, physically and socially-engaged lives that fulfill them and impact society. Through on-going research she discovers new ways for individuals and organizations to better manage, leverage and engage one another in productive opportunities both paid and volunteer.

Her message has resonated with TODAY SHOW, NBC Nightly News, MSNBC, PBS, CNN, and FOX audiences, and her work has been featured in print and electronic media including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Reader’s Digest, and TIME.

Jeri is the former Editor-at-Large of WORKING WOMAN magazine. Her focus then was on work/life balance and breaking the “glass ceiling,” now her focus is on work/leisure balance and men and women breaking through the “silver ceiling.” She traveled the country motivating audiences, which included CEO’s, Presidents, Human Resources executives, entrepreneurs and thousands of working women at all levels, to recognize and eliminate perceived or real barriers to professional success, and was involved with flex-time and work/life balance issues on behalf of WORKING MOTHER magazine.

Jeri was formerly a partner at SEDLAR & MINERS, an executive search and transition coaching firm in New York City, specializing in the recruitment of senior management for such companies as Citibank, Ernst & Young, L’OREAL and Gartner.

Jeri has over 20 years of experience in the consumer marketing and professional services arena, having held management positions at Bloomingdale’s and AVON Products.

An active volunteer she served on the Board of the YWCA of New York City for 10 years, and is now an honorary Board Member and the former Chair of the YWCA's 2000 member Academy of Women Achievers. She has served on the Board of Visitors of the University of Delaware’s College of Business and Economics, and is a former member of the Board of Visitors of Wake Forest University’s Calloway School of Business and Accounting where she received the distinguished Wayne Calloway Leadership Award. She is on the Advisory Board of The Transition Network, Health Advocates for Older People, and the ENCORE LEADERSHIP NETWORK. She was honored as a Woman of Achievement by TRI DELTA sorority and is only the second woman to sit on the board of the USS Intrepid Sea*Air*Space Museum.

She is a graduate of Michigan State University and resides in New York City with her co-author husband.
